The Gaming Laptop That You Can Take To A Meeting | Acer Predator Helios 300 Review
Acer has been very good with its Predator series but the Helios 300 does not make sense at the price(Rs 1,49,999/ USD 2348) it’s been offered, especially considering Acer also launched a new Laptop the Acer Nitro 5with similar specs and it’s much cheaper.
I’m not underestimating the Acer Predator Helios 300, as it’s a beast of a machine with Intel Core i7 7th Gen(7700HQ), 4GB Nvidia GTX 1060(DDR5 memory), 8GB of DDR4 RAM, a 128GB SSD with a 1TB Hard drive. It checks a lot of boxes for me. Also, it’s great metallic body and not much screen flex adds to the overall experience.
Also the fact that it comes with Windows 10 Home pre-loaded means you can play a lot of Xbox games on it, but to enjoy the real console experience on this machine I would recommend you to get the Xbox One Controller or if you’re on a lower budget you can go with Redgear Pro Series Wireless Gamepad.
Coming back to the review, the trackpad on the Predictor Helios 300 is just the right size and is pretty accurate. There seems to be no keyboard flex while typing and cooling isn’t an issue with Acer’s state of the art cooling software. Media consumption is also great with 170degree viewing angle and a 1080p screen (*Secretly wishes there was a 4k version*). The mental hinge is simple and sturdy. I/O consists of an ethernet, a USB Type C, HDMI, SD Card Reader, 1 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0 and a headphone jack. It has all the ports that you pretty much need without having to buy dongles (*coughs Apple*).
Also, this is probably the only gaming laptop that you can take to a meeting (+10 points for that) and its light weight (2.7 Kg) makes it easy to carry. Acer claims a battery life of 9 hours which is true for normal usage but when you push it to extreme performance it loses a few hours.
In conclusion, I can say you should go for the Nitro 5 instead of Helios Predator 300.
*Price got updated to Rs. 74999.
My thoughts have changed a little after this big price drop. At this price, The Acer Predator Helios 300 becomes quite competitive.
