As the week comes to a close, here's a recap of the hottest tech news of the week. In what many are terming as appeasement of the US President Donald Trump, Indian IT services gaint Infosys has announced that it plans to hire 10,000 American workers in the next two years and open four technology centres in the United States. Infosys will be setting up its first centre in Indiana, US.


Moving on, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar-backed startup Smartron launched its mid-range smartphone srt.phone in India this week. The smartphone comes in two storage variants -- 32GB and 64GB. Priced at Rs 12,999 and Rs 13,999 respectively, both the versions of the srt.phone feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display, with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The smartphone is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. Smartron srt.phone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and has a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge support. For imaging duties, the srt.phone has a 13MP primary camera with auto-focus and LED flash. There's also a 5MP front-facing shooter for selfies and video calls. The phone is available for sale on Flipkart.


Another smartphone that was launched this week was Oppo F3. The selfie-centric smartphone is priced at Rs 19,990. Up for pre-order on Flipkart, the Oppo F3 comes with a 5.5-inch Full-HD display and 2.0mm thin screen bezels. It is powered by an octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 4GB of RAM. It features 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card along with dual-selfie cameras. The 16MP selfie camera comes with 6P lens, f/2.0 aperture and Beautify 4.0 image enhancing technology. Users can also click 120-degree wide angle images using the secondary front-facing camera. The smartphone will also alert users when they need to use the group-selfie mode instead of the regular mode. There is a 13MP rear camera with PDAF sensor as well. Some of the other camera features include Anti-Shake 2.0, Expert Mode, Ultra HD mode and Palm Shutter. On the OS side of things, the Oppo F3 runs Color OS 3.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and also has fast-charging capabilities. The device is backed by a 3200mAh battery and sports a fingerprint sensor.


Technology giant Samsung launched its latest range of 4K QLED TVs in India. The new series includes five models -- Q7, Q7F, Q8, Q8C and Q9 - priced between Rs 3,14,900 to Rs 24,99,900. The TVs come in screen sizes ranging from 49-inch to 88-inch and can be pre-booked on Samsung's official website. Customers who pre-book the TVs between May 2 to May 21 will get a Gold-coloured variant of Samsung Galaxy S8+ completely free.


Last but not the least, Tata Teleservices is said to have fired between 500 to 600 employees earlier this week. According to sources, the lay-offs are spread across locations. The severance package being offered to the laid-off employees is one month's salary for their every year of service. The company, along with the listed arm, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd, has a presence in 19 telecom circles.
